Talent Network is recruiting a Design Estimator on behalf of an established industry partner delivering a significant 12-year programme of customer-orientated works within New Zealand’s electricity distribution sector. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with electrical industry experience who enjoys combining technical design, estimating, commercial awareness and customer engagement.
About the role As a Design Estimator, you will be responsible for developing practical, accurate design and pricing solutions across a range of high and low voltage, overhead and underground electrical projects. You’ll work closely with delivery teams, customers, suppliers and contractors to ensure projects are accurately scoped, designed and priced from the outset.
Key responsibilities will include: * Producing quality electrical designs and accurate project estimates * Estimating labour, plant, materials and subcontractor requirements * Reviewing plans and drawings to determine project scope and costs * Preparing quotations and project bids in line with commercial targets * Undertaking peer reviews of designs and estimates * Working collaboratively with delivery and project teams * Attending site and customer meetings where required * Supporting project handovers and close-out reviews * Ensuring designs comply with relevant electrical standards and industry requirements
About you We’re interested in hearing from candidates with a strong understanding of the electrical contracting or electricity distribution industry.
Ideally, you will bring: * Electrical industry, design or estimating experience * Knowledge of distribution network construction and electrical standards * An electrical trade or technical qualification such as Line Mechanic or Cable Jointer would be advantageous * Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam or Neara would be beneficial * Strong analytical and commercial capability * Excellent organisation and time-management skills * Strong written and verbal communication * A practical, customer-focused approach * The ability to manage multiple designs, estimates and deadlines simultaneously
